Build A Website Now with No Prior Experience!
"Can a
Newbie Build a Website for Work at Home or Other Business Opportunities With No Prior Web Site
Building Experience or Training?"
Or maybe you already have a website, but it’s just
sitting there, and you are not getting the traffic you need to sustain your online website, auction site,
small-business site or home-based Internet business
site?
-----The story of one newbie website builder’s
journey----
Below, I
will share with you a condensed account of how I built my first few websites** and got them up and
running in no time at all, and how these sites have consistently generated top-ranking traffic in their few
months of existence--and all this without spending one dime on
advertising.
But feel free to skip this section and continue
browsing if the thought of sharing some passion you have with others online or if the
idea of building your own successful website or home-based business has never crossed your mind…(Editor's
Note: This story was moved from our primary site which was launched in late
2003)
A little
background…
I became interested in building a website after attending a one day seminar in Atlanta last July
(2003). The main topic was not on building websites, but on how to receive government grant money to buy your
first house, etc. They wanted $900 to show me how. I opted
out.
I had already
purchased a new townhome with cash back at closing thanks to the ideas presented in Carleton Sheets NO DOWN PAYMENT Program. (Though I have to confess I was not that impressed with the program Sheets sells, but the one
thing that I did learn from it was that everything is negotiable, so I not only got into a new home for less
than $200 out of pocket, I also negotiated a built-in microwave and other amenities for my townhome as a part
of the deal.)
Perhaps because I had no social life at the time, and was having a slow day, I stayed to hear
what the last speaker at the seminar had to say on a completely different topic. I do think the job of this
speaker was to keep the rest of us busy while the first company collected money from the paying customers
(i.e. those who were giving up the $900 dinero for the grants program). As it turned out, the speaker’s topic
was on the world wide web and how it was a multi-billion dollar industry—or did he say multi-trillion dollar
industry—that continues to grow.
Testing the
Waters
So, I made my first investment in the web hosting program this company was selling, paid about
$130 for the subsequent workshop, $99 to sign up for a merchant account that would allow me to sell products
or services on my site at about $49 a month, and paid another $60 upfront to get hooked to an automated
business phone answering service, that would cost me $29.95 monthly to sustain--all this to get me started in
style with my new online website and new home-based internet
business.
Now, mind you this is all before I even had a website up and running. (Yeah, yeah I know I was
green, but that’s why I’m sharing this story
with you, just in case your coat of green is of a richer luster than mine was at the
time:)-
Lessons
The lesson for
the newbie: Don’t invest in a merchant account right away. There are plenty of ways to accept money over the net
(if you are selling something directly from your site) without making that initial upfront and monthly
investment. PayPalis one of them. And there are so many software programs that can answer your phone that you can
save that extra phone bill too and focus instead on building your website and your
business.
Check out
the EZ Voice answering software when you have a minute.
It comes with a free download so you can try before you buy. And the cost was less than $20, total. There are
other software systems out there to answer your phone; you just have to do a little browsing to find the
right one for your needs. Of course if you just have money to spend, PBNext does offers a 1- 800 professional
business answering service for about $30 a month. Yes, all of my friends were impressed with their
service—but I didn’t have a website up at the time so I did not really need the
service.
I currently
have my 800 number through my long distance carrier which redirects my 1-800 calls to my local phone number,
and I pay about 6 to 8 cents a minute for the actual minutes used, with no monthly surcharge. I get rates as
low as 3.5 cents/minute Unlimited Long Distance
at LowerMyBills.com! I have saved
tons of money on international calls and long distance bills since signing up through
them.
But back to the
story…
Stumbling upon SITE BUILD
IT...
Lucky for me I had some time on my hand after making the investment in my first web-hosting
company—did I not say I have no social life--and started using the net to do some research. I figured if this
was going to be my new part-time pursuit that I probably should get a little more familiar with the World Wde
Web. Somehow I ran across a website while surfing late one night where the site host gave high
recommendations for the Site Build It program. When I clicked on the link to SITE BUILD IT, I found out
why.
[As an aside (and as a note to save face), I should mention that I did get my money back from
the first hosting company I joined—you know the one that sold me all the things I didn’t need as a newbie to
the web. I used the three-day cancellation clause to get my refunds. I couldn’t get the workshop money back,
but that was okay because the company had introduced me to the possibility that someone without experience
could build a website and learn to work from home and make a living online. That had to be worth
something. Right?]
Still after I got the code to go in and build my site using their program, I was sooooo lost. It
was a nightmare. There was no way I would be able to use the program to build a website. It was not very user
friendly. And I am a firm believer that in this day and age, things can be and should be friendly to the end
user. Then I tried Yahoo’s Site Builder program, using their thirty-day free trial offer. After about a week
of trying, l had reached the same conclusion—not very user friendly for this
neophyte.
So when I was finally able to get my hands on the SITE BUILD IT program about the first of
September (2003), I could hardly wait to get started using it because I knew that if it delivered even half
of what it said it would, that the money would be well spent to launch my new online part-time, work from
home website business.
I was NOT disappointed. Ken Evoy, the creator of the system, walked me through it every step of
the way. The program was so personable that I really felt I had a personal coach that was training me day by
day on everything I needed to know to be successful in building my online web
site.
At the end of the program—a 10-day course which took me a little longer to complete ‘cause I was
only doing it part-time--I knew all the terms, most of the jargon, and more importantly, I had all the tools
I needed to build my site. My confidence level and belief that I could succeed
grew.
Content-based
websites
American Express used to say "Don't leave home without it", and Coca-Cola told us all
for the longest that "It's the real thing", and now Ken Evoy tells us "content-based" websites are
the wave of the future for anyone wanting to succeed on the
internet.
Ken’s program suggests / strongly encourages / demands website builders construct
content-based or theme-based websites in order to get the maximum amount of online traffic to their sites.
And this philosophy made a lot of sense to me, since information ranks in the top five categories of what
website browsers are thirsting
for.
The SITE BUILD IT manager program taught me how to structure the content of my site so the
search engines could find their way around in it and rank it high when their “spiders” did their crawling
(yeah, I can now talk about spiders and webs and crawling—it’s a whole ‘nother language, mate—as Ken might
say).
The automated keyword brainstormer program, included in the SITE BUILD IT package--among a host
of other goodies--helped identify words that internet browsers would most likely use in their searches to
find information that my site offered; again, this for the sole purpose of getting more folks to your site.
And that's important whether you have information to share, a service to provide or products to
sell.
I like to think of it this way: what if you owned a brick and mortar store and on
Monday morning you went in at 6:00 a.m. and opened shop, but all day only ten people walked through the
door. What if on Tuesday morning you did the same thing, but somehow word had gotten out that you were now
open for business and instead of 10 people showing up, 50 showed up. Now, the $1000 dollar "Who Wants to
be a Millionaire" question: On which day do you think the owner of the shop made more
sales?
To illustrate the point with a more concrete example I'll share this one real-life story with
you, then move on. Recently I went to an Arts Festival held at a mall, and stopped in to chat with a vendor
selling nutritional supplements and vitamins. I naturally asked her if she had a
website.
She responded that she had tried it but had not gotten any good results so I naturally
mentioned my website and all the targeted traffic that I was getting on my site to which she responded,
"I don't care about traffic, I am only interested in the number of people who purchase my products." I
remembered that--as I opened my mouth to respond--all I could say was "Da...ah", before the next couple
came up to the counter.
What’s your
Passion?…
Another component which I really enjoyed about using the SITE BUILD IT program initially was how
Ken provided an exercise which helps the website builder to figure out what their true passion is and what
stimulates them so that they bring that idea to the internet. So that your web site is more of a fun thing to
build rather than just another part time work at home job. These days, I have to force myself to go to bed because
I find the theme of total health so
fascinating…
Did I say this would be brief…okay…let me wind it
up
Even before buying the SITE BUILD IT program, I was so impressed with SITE BUILD IT’s
presentation and just compelled to make the investment, which came with an iron clad “satisfaction guarantee
or your money back” attached to
it.
Now is a good time to investigate SITE BUILD IT!
What are you waiting for? A new year? Well it's here and full of new possibilities for creating
your own website from scratch, of creating your own home-based online business, creating your own profit making
website or just sharing a hobby with the world. The choice is yours. You can do it. I did it. And it is the most
fun I have ever had in front of a computer.
The sooner you start, the sooner you get used to working with a web host that puts all the tools in one package for
you and takes out all the guestwork so all you have to do is concentrate on building your business by providing
your customers with great content and great products--either your own product or service or someone else's
(affiliate programs). I invite you to get started at the SITE BUILD IT “university”
today.
Looks like I am going to need a Part
2…
I had hoped to tell you about the second program used in building our websites, but because I
was so longwinded about SITE BUILD IT, I will have to promise to do it at another
time.
But before I
go, let me direct you to the Site Build It site so you can take a closer look at all the
features this program has to offer. Click here to go to the special SBI page I built listing most of their
resources. You will even be able to compare their package with other programs, feature by
feature.
Feel free to
email me if you have other questions about building your first website using the SBI program. Though I
am still a newbie, I now have connection in high places (i.e. Site Build It! support team). In fact you
can ask questions directly to the experts at Site Build It here
I’m wishing you all the best as you go online with your new or enhanced
website.
